more evidence that I watch too much TV
Friday Night Lights + Jericho = genius.
My bank account = suffering.
But that's OK.... I'm all about supporting struggling but genius TV shows by buying the DVDs when it's too late. At least I can still get more episodes from both of these shows. I didn't start watching Veronica Mars until the very end of its last season.
Also, Mariska Hargitay is scaring me with her hair changing drastically between episodes and even between scenes (though that part is more just styling). Also, do we need so many guest stars? It's distracting. Especially when Melissa Joan Hart can't act. Sorry, Sabrissa.

Weathery fun
For the first time that I'm actually in the same place as a tropical storm/hurricane, this is pretty boring. Not that that's a bad thing.
An earthquake and a hurricane in one summer. Fun stuff.

Grammatical idiocy
Lamest defense to make on the House floor?
"I thought I was using the hortatory subjunctive...." (to paraphrase)

Grammatical foibles
Posting again, just to let you all know how proud I am that, in my just-posted entry, I not only split an infinitive, but even used 'hopefully' to mean something other than "in a hopeful manner." Take that, prescriptive grammarians!

Wow, this is so my life.
Except, I haven't really gotten into 24 yet. Though I did watch the last few episodes of last season, because I was at home, and Jeff was a fan.
But yeah.... season DVDs = evil. And yet so wonderful. But if I fail out of grad school, that's why. Or rather, my lack of self-control in the face of them.

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. | |

Election Day
I just voted... walked into my precinct right after someone shouted "The polls are open!" to announce that voting had commenced. I'm pretty sure I was the first to cast a ballot in my precinct. Wow, I'm a nerd. And, awake waaaay too early. But I have a lot of work to do, and didn't want to do any last night, so I am awake now.
In which I continue to slack (sort of)
It's amazing.... how I continue to be as slackerish as possible. I mean, I guess this mainly manifests itself in a bit of a lack of sleep the night before I have classes, since I do generally do all of my work. But, it would be nice to get it done early once in a while, maybe have some time to ponder things on a more than surface-deep level. Maybe I'm just a shallow person ;).
I'm sort of feeling cosmically off-balance, whatever the heck that means, as well as missing home, friends and family. But you know, it was about time for a random weekend-of-depression, so it's all good. Also, stayed up until 7 AM Friday night/Saturday morning, which was entertaining.
Choir on Sunday morning seemed to have been designed intentionally to upset/embarass/torture me, but such is life.
In exciting news, I have two and a half hours of good TV coming up, and then it's hitting the books for real for a few hours to get that Plautus finished off.
*Now, off to collect my hopefully dry laundry. And yes... the asterisk indicates that the sentence is, perhaps, grammatically incorrect -- because I don't like that usage of 'hopefully', useful as it is.

Random
I keep seeing folks wearing UT t-shirts. I don't think much of it as I walk past, and then I realize, "oh, I'm in California!"
But then, it's too late to comment on their shirt.
Okay, not that great a story, but it happened again today.
Also, I finally saw some people from UCLA's APO chapter. Sounds like they're a similar size as Delta Pi... we rock! Though, I'm not really part of that we anymore. But, I digress.
Back to Plautus....

Back to Plautus....
I keep meaning to update...
... but then I don't get around to it.
So, obviously a lot has happened since I last posted. My grandpa's been in and out of the hospital, my grandma's in the hospital now, and my great aunt died.... so yeah, hasn't been the happiest week for me. But at the same time, classes finally started here at UCLA, and I'm getting to know folks better and such, and generally having a good time. It just sucks being away from my family at the time when I feel like I should really be there.
This week I learned that 12 bottles of Smirnoff Ice in a night is a really bad idea... although it's fun at the time.
John Papadopoulos seems to delight in torturing me, by encouraging my fellow students in his archaeology class to give me a hard time during my presentation next Friday. Oh, joy. As if I wasn't stressing about it enough already. It'll be a good character-building exercise ;).
I should be reading some Plautus right now, as I've only gotten through 60 lines of the 550 I need to read by Thursday. But hearing from my dad tonight really killed all the motivation I had, so instead I watched some TV, did some reading (of non-school-related stuff), and played Final Fantasy IV on gameboy for a while. Apparently I'm a bum and doomed to fail out of grad school. At least my Greek and Latin diagnostics seem to have gone decently, so they haven't kicked me out already ;).
OK, enough for now....
